Massproductions sculptural armchair “Rose” in layer-glued wood is now launched in a new Oak finish. The chair is manufactured in Småland (Sweden) from Swedish FSC-certified wood source and is now available in four finishes – Oak, Black-stained Oak, Walnut and Maple.
Designer-in-Chief, Chris Martin, cultivated the concept of the Rose Chair through the exploration of opportunities and limitations of creating forms through layer-glued wood. The design idea was to create an armchair that consisted entirely of wood without any screws or metal fittings. The solution to the design challenge was the Rose Chair, which was launched in 2018 during the Stockholm Furniture Fair. The four geometric sculptured forms that fit harmoniously together to create its romantic visual language, have been precisely designed to give the chair its structural integrity and stability.
Rose Chair is also an example of our high ambitions with environmental and quality certification and one of the first products from our product catalogue to be certified with “Möbelfakta” – the Swedish sustainability and quality label. As part of the certification, the Rose Chair had durability tested to meet the demands on furniture in the public environment. The Rose Chair underwent a load test which is repeated 100,000 times, where a weight of 100 kg loads the seat and 30 kg loads the backrest. Despite its sculptural, compact form, the chair passed the test with no defects.
Based on Möbelfakta’s requirements, Rose was also tested for its environmental aspects, which ensure that the product’s components are sourced from sustainable sources and that harmful chemicals are minimized or completely avoided. The last parameter, social responsibility, quality assures the conditions prevailing during production and relates to human rights, labour law issues, environment and corruption. In the coming years, we aim to certify the entire collection to Möbelfakta standards.
