Massproductions’ Jig Chair was first introduced during the Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2011. This autumn, the chair is being launched in a new edition, still robust and stackable but now with a higher backrest.
Jig is uniquely made from twelve simple steel tubes, placed in a jig, that are welded together in a fresh design for an old typology. Chairs made of tubes are often bent to a rounded shape at the corners, resulting in a softer expression. With Jig, designer Chris Martin chose instead to cut the tubes straight off and let them keep their shape, which gives the design a sharp, pointed look. As the name suggests, Jig High Back has a higher backrest. Designer Chris Martin had been thinking about designing a high-backed chair for some time and realized that Jig, with its clean lines, was the perfect chair for the job.
“There’s something majestic about high-backed chairs, they have a sort of a regal feeling, while being private at the same time. For instance, no one can peek over your shoulder while you’re browsing online in a public space.”
The new editions curved high back also makes it sound-absorbing. The Jig was originally made for public environments, with a focus on comfort, while being easily stackable and robust. Jig series is also available as armchair, easy chair, bar stools and chair in versions for both indoor and outdoor use.
